Manchester United Women secure club-record goalkeeper deal until 2029
Manchester United Women have completed their first major close-season signing with a goalkeeper on a contract running until June 2029. The move is the club’s longest-ever deal for a goalkeeper and underlines their ambition to push for Champions League spots in the coming years.
What the new deal means for the Reds
The new goalkeeper arrives as Manchester United Women prepare for their seventh straight season in the FA Women’s Super League. Last term they finished fourth with 40 points from 22 games, 15 points behind league winners Manchester City Women, and the extra security in goal should help them close the gap this time around. They scored 38 goals and conceded 22, leaving a +16 goal difference that left them four points off third-placed Arsenal Women.
Who is the new goalkeeper?
The club has not yet named the player, but the six-year contract points to a significant investment in the back line. United Women have made just one permanent goalkeeper signing in their history-Mary Earps in 2019-so this move doubles their long-term goalkeeping portfolio. With the WSL expanding to 14 teams next season, competition for top-four spots will only intensify.
